While Mercedes-Benz is hard at work developing an all-new G-Class Cabriolet, a tuning shop from the Middle East has beaten them to it. Meet the Mastodon V4 by Venuum.
Although we’ve seen plenty of radical G-Class-based projects in recent years, including convertibles from Mansory, they usually retained the model’s key recognizable features, such as the signature round headlights.
That’s not the case here: Venuum appears to have replaced nearly every exterior panel except the doors, creating its own roofless super-off-roader.
The front end is particularly striking. It features an all-new bumper with extensive exposed forged carbon fiber, which contrasts sharply with the classic boxy G-Class design. There’s also a new grille, square headlights, and a custom hood.
The side profile of this Mercedes G-Class is equally far from stock. It boasts dramatic wheels, fender flares, and forged carbon side skirts. In the images the wheelbase appears shorter than standard, though this may be a visual effect, as the vehicle remains a four-door model.
The main changes are, of course, at the rear, where the roof has been completely removed. A black fabric soft top is presumably available to cover the rear seats and protect them from the elements, although no photos with the top raised have been released.
The interior has also been reworked. The front and rear seats are upholstered in a combination of yellow and black leather, while a unique center console made — naturally — of forged carbon fiber sits between the rear seats.
Venuum has not revealed how many examples of the Mastodon V4 will be produced, only stating that it will be a “limited series.”
